But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you,uLuke 19:44 there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down. ”

Signs of the Close of the Age

As he sat onvSee ch. 21:1 the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to himw[Mark 4:34] privately, saying, “Tell us,x[Acts 1:6, 7] when will these things be, and what will be the sign of youryver. 27, 37, 39; See 1 Thess. 2:19 coming and ofzSee ch. 13:39 the close of the age? ” And Jesus answered them, aJer. 29:8; Eph. 5:6; Col. 2:8; 2 Thess. 2:3; 1 John 3:7 “See that no one leads you astray. The Abomination of Desolation

15 So when you see the abomination of desolationwDan. 9:27; 11:31; 12:11 spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing inx[John 11:48; Acts 6:13; 21:28] the holy place (y[Dan. 9:22, 23, 25; Rev. 1:3] let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 zLuke 17:31 Let the one who is onaSee Luke 5:19 the housetop not go down to take what is in his house, 18 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 19 AndbLuke 23:29 alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For then there will becver. 29; Dan. 12:1; [Rev. 7:14] great tribulation,dRev. 16:18 such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22 And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But forever. 24, 31; Isa. 65:8, 9; Luke 18:7; [ch. 22:14] the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 fLuke 17:23; [ver. 5, 26] Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ! ’ or ‘There he is! ’ do not believe it. 24 Forg[1 John 2:18] false christs andhver. 11 false prophets will arise andiDeut. 13:1-3; 2 Thess. 2:9-11; Rev. 13:13, 14; 16:14; 19:20; [Acts 8:9] perform great signs and wonders, hver. 11 so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See,jJohn 13:19; 14:29; [2 Pet. 3:17] I have told you beforehand. 26 So, if they say to you, ‘Look,kActs 21:38 he is in the wilderness, ’ do not go out. The Lesson of the Fig Tree

32 From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near,cJames 5:9; Rev. 3:20 at the very gates. 34 dSee ch. 16:28 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 ePs. 102:26; Isa. 51:6; 2 Pet. 3:10; [ch. 5:18; Heb. 12:27] Heaven and earth will pass away, butfPs. 119:89; Isa. 40:8; 1 Pet. 1:23, 25 my words will not pass away.

No One Knows That Day and Hour

36 But concerning that day and hourgch. 25:13; 1 Thess. 5:1, 2 no one knows, not even the angels of heaven,h[Phil. 2:6, 7] nor the Son,i[Zech. 14:7; Acts 1:7] but the Father only. 37 jLuke 17:26, 27 As were the days of Noah, kver. 27 so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 j[See ver. 37 above] For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, lch. 22:30 marrying and giving in marriage, untilmGen. 7:7-16 the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away,k[See ver. 37 above] so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 nLuke 17:35 Two women will be grindingoEx. 11:5; Isa. 47:2 at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore,pMark 14:34-38; Luke 12:37; 21:36; Acts 20:31; 1 Thess. 5:6 stay awake, for you do not know on what dayqJohn 13:13 your Lord is coming. 43 rFor ver. 43-51, [Luke 12:39-46] But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the nights[1 Thess. 5:2; 2 Pet. 3:10; Rev. 3:3] the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must betch. 25:10 ready, foruver. 27 the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

45 Who then isvch. 25:21; 1 Cor. 4:2; Heb. 3:5 the faithful andwch. 7:24; 10:16; 25:2 wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 xJohn 13:17; Rev. 16:15 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 47 Truly, I say to you, ych. 25:21, 23 he will set him over all his possessions. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My masterzch. 25:5 is delayed, ’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks witha1 Thess. 5:7 drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will comeb2 Pet. 3:12; [ch. 25:13] on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know 51 and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that placecSee ch. 8:12 there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
