The Coming of the Holy Spirit

2

Whenfch. 20:16; 1 Cor. 16:8; [Lev. 23:15] the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound likeg[1 Kgs. 19:11; Job 38:1; Ezek. 1:4] a mighty rushing wind, andh[ch. 4:31; 16:26] it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tonguesiMatt. 3:11 as of fire appeared to them and rested1Or And tongues as of fire appeared to them, distributed among them, and rested on each one of them. And they were alljch. 4:31; 13:52 filled with the Holy Spirit and begankSee Mark 16:17 to speak in other tonguesl[1 Cor. 12:10, 11] as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. Andmver. 2 at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. Andnver. 12 they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speakingoch. 1:11; [Matt. 26:73] Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Peter's Sermon at Pentecost

14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose,u[1 Thess. 5:7] since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
