How long, O Lord, willhave I callcalled for help, And You willdo not hear? I cry out to You, “Violence!” Yet You do not save. |
1:3 |
Why do You make me see iniquitydisaster, And causemake me to look onat wickednessdestitution? Yes, destructiondevastation and violence are before me; Strife exists and contention arises. |
1:4 |
Therefore the lawLaw is ignored, And justice is never upheld. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore justice comes out pervertedconfused. |
1:5 |
“Look among the nations! ObserveWatch! Be astonishedhorrified! WonderBe frightened speechless! BecauseFor I am doingaccomplishing somethinga work in your days— You would not believe it even if you were told.! |
1:6 |
For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans, That fiercegrim and impetuous people Who march throughout the earth, To seizetake possession of dwelling places whichthat are not theirs. |
1:7 |
They are dreadedterrifying and feared; Their justice and authority originate with themselves. |
1:8 |
Their horses are swifterfaster than leopards, And keenerquicker than wolves in the evening. Their horsemen comecharge gallopingalong, Their horsemen come from afar; They fly like an eagle swooping down to devour. |
1:9 |
All of them come for violence. Their horde of faces moves forward. They collectgather captives like sand. |
1:10 |
They mockmake atfun of kings, And rulersdignitaries are aan laughingobject matterof laughter to them. They laugh at every fortress, AndThen heap up rubbledirt toand capture it. |
1:11 |
Then they willfly sweepalong through like the wind and pass on. But they will be held guilty, They whose strength is their god.” |

Are You not from time everlasting, O Lord, my God, my Holy One? We will not die. You, O Lord, have appointed them to judgedeliver judgment; And You, O Rock, have establisheddestined them to correctpunish. |
1:13 |
Your eyes are too pure to approvelook at evil, And You cancannot not look onat wickednessharm with favorfavorably. Why do You look withfavorably favorAt On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they? |

Why have You made menpeople like the fish of the sea, Like creepingcrawling things withoutthat ahave no ruler over them? |
1:15 |
The Chaldeans bring all of them up with a hook, Drag them away with their net, And gather them together in their fishing net. Therefore they rejoice and are gladjoyful. |
1:16 |
Therefore they offer a sacrifice to their net And burn incense to their fishing net;, Because through these things their catch is large, And their food is plentiful. |
1:17 |
Will they therefore empty their net, And continually slay nations without sparing? |
2:1 |
I will stand onat my guard post And station myself on the rampartwatchtower; And I will keep watch to see what He will speaksay to me, And how I may reply when I am reprovedreprimanded. |

Then the Lord answered me and said, “RecordWrite down the vision And inscribe it clearly on tablets, ThatSo thethat one who reads it may run. |
2:3 |
For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastenshurries toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarriesdelays, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay long. |

“Behold, as for the proudimpudent one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous one will live by his faith. |
2:5 |
Furthermore, wine betrays thean haughtyarrogant man, So that he does not stayachieve athis homeobjective. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, And he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all the nations And collects to himself all the peoples. |
2:6 |
“Will not all of these not take up a taunt-song of ridicule against him, Even mockerya saying and insinuations against him And say, ‘Woe to him who increases what is not his— For how long— And makes himself rich with loans?’debts!’ |
2:7 |
Will not your creditors not rise up suddenly, And those who collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them. |
2:8 |
BecauseSince you have looted many nations, All the remainderrest of the peoples will loot you— Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants. |
2:9 |
“Woe to him who getsmakes evil gainprofit for his househousehold, To put his nest on high, To be deliveredsaved from the hand of calamitycatastrophe! |
2:10 |
You have devisedplanned a shameful thing for your house By cuttingbringing off many peoples to an end; So you are sinning against yourself. |
2:11 |
SurelyFor the stone will cry out from the wall, And the rafter will answer it from the framework. |
2:12 |
“Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed, And founds a town with violence! |
2:13 |
Is it not indeed from the Lord of hostsarmies That peoples toillabor merely for fire, And nations growbecome weary for nothing? |
2:15 |
“Woe to youhim who makemakes yourhis neighborsneighbor drink,; WhoTo you who mix in your venom even to make themyour neighbors drunk, So as to look onat their nakednessgenitalia! |
2:16 |
You will be filled with disgrace rather than honor. NowDrink, you yourself, drink and expose your own nakedness.foreskin! The cup in the Lord’s right hand will come around to you, And utter disgrace will come upon your glory. |
2:17 |
For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, And the devastation of its beastsanimals by which you terrified them, Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants. |
2:18 |
“What profitbenefit is thea idolcarved image when its maker has carved it, Or ana cast metal image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols. |
2:19 |
Woe to him who says to a piece of wood, ‘Awake!’ To a mute stone, ‘Arise!’ AndThat that is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, AndYet there is no breath at all inside it. |

Lord, I have heard the report about You, and I fearwas afraid. O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known;. In wrathanger remember mercy. |
3:3 |
God comes from Teman, And the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His splendor covers the heavens, And the earth is full of His praise. |
3:4 |
His radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And there is the hiding of His powermight is there. |
3:5 |
Before Him goes pestilenceplague, And plague comes forth after Him. |
3:6 |
He stood and surveyedcaused the earth to shudder; He looked and startledcaused the nations to jump. Yes, the perpetualeverlasting mountains were shattered, The ancient hills collapsed. His wayspaths are everlasting. |
3:8 |
Did the Lord rage against the rivers, Or was Your anger against the rivers, Or was Your wrathrage against the sea, That You rode on Your horses, On Your chariots of salvation? |
3:9 |
You removed Your bow wasfrom madeits bareholder, The rodsarrows of chastisementYour word were sworn. Selah. You cleaveddivided the earth with rivers. |
3:10 |
The mountains saw You and quaked; The downpour of waters swept by. The deep utteredraised forth its voice, It lifted high its hands. |
3:11 |
Sun and moon stood in their lofty places; They went away at the light of Your arrows, At the radiance of Your gleamingflashing spear. |
3:13 |
You went forth for the salvation of Your people, For the salvation of Your anointed. You strucksmashed the head of the house of the evil To layuncover him open from thighfoot to neck. Selah. |
3:14 |
You pierced with his own spearsarrows The head of his throngsleaders. They stormed in to scatter us; Their exultationarrogance was like those Who devour the oppressed in secret. |
3:15 |
You trampled on the sea with Your horses, On the surgefoam of many waters. |
3:16 |
I heard, and my inwardinner parts trembled,; At the sound, my lips quivered. Decay enters my bones, And in my place I tremble.; Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress, For the people to arise who will invadeattack us. |
3:17 |
ThoughEven if the fig tree shoulddoes not blossom, And there beis no fruit on the vines, ThoughIf the yield of the olive shouldfails, fail And the fields produce no food, ThoughEven if the flock shoulddisappears be cut off from the fold, And there beare no cattle in the stalls, |
3:18 |
Yet I will exulttriumph in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. |
3:19 |
The Lord God is my strength, And He has made my feet like hindsdeer’s feet, And makeshas me walk on my high places. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments. |
