1:2 To Timothy, my true childson in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
1:3 AsJust as I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, to remain on at Ephesus so that you maywould instruct certain menpeople not to teach strange doctrines,
1:4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mereuseless speculation rather than furtheringadvance the administrationplan of God, which is by faith, so I urge you now.
1:5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart, andfrom a good conscience, and from a sincere faith.
1:6 ForSome somepeople men,have strayingstrayed from these things, and have turned aside to fruitless discussion,
1:9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profaneworldly, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
1:10 andfor immoralthe mensexually andimmoral, homosexuals, andslave kidnapperstraders, and liars, and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,
1:13 even though I was formerlypreviously a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.
1:16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, sinner Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.
2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreatiesrequests, and prayers, petitionsintercession, and thanksgivings,thanksgiving be made onin behalf of all menpeople,
2:4 who desireswants all menpeople to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and menmankind, the man Christ Jesus,

2:12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
2:14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman beingwas deceived, felland intobecame transgressiona wrongdoer.
2:15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children childbirth—if they continue in faith, and love, and sanctity, with self-restraintmoderation.
3:2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudentself-controlled, respectable, hospitable, ableskillful toin teachteaching,
3:3 not addictedoverindulging toin wine, ornot pugnaciousa bully, but gentle, peaceablenot contentious, free from the love of money.
3:6 and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil.

4:7 But havestay nothingaway tofrom doworthless withstories worldlythat fablesare fittypical onlyof for old women. On the other handRather, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
4:8 for bodily disciplinetraining is onlyjust ofslightly little profitbeneficial, but godliness is profitablebeneficial for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

5:4 but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practiceshow pietyproper inrespect regardfor to their own family and to makegive someback returncompensation to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
5:5 Now she who is actually a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixedset her hope on God, and she continues in entreatiesrequests and prayers night and day.

5:12 thusthereby incurring condemnation, because they have setignored aside their previous pledge.
5:13 At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also they become gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention.
5:14 Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bearhave children, keepmanage housetheir households, and give the enemy no occasionopportunity for reproach;
5:15 for some have already turned asideaway to follow Satan.
5:16 If any woman who is a believer has dependent widows, she must assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are actually widows indeed.
