1 iSee Nah. 1:1 The burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the Lord,jSee Isa. 42:5 who stretched out the heavens andkIsa. 48:13 founded the earth andjSee Isa. 42:5 formed the spirit of man within him: 2 “Behold, I am about to make JerusalemlIsa. 51:17, 22, 23 a cup of staggering tom[ch. 14:2] all the surrounding peoples. The siege of Jerusalemn[ch. 14:14] will also be against Judah. 3 och. 13:1, 2, 4; 14:4, 6, 8; Isa. 2:11 On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples.p[Matt. 21:44; Luke 20:18] All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. Andm[See ver. 2 above] all the nations of the earth will gather against it. 4 o[See ver. 3 above] On that day, declares the Lord,q[Ps. 76:6] I will strike every horser[Deut. 28:28] with panic, and its riderr[Deut. 28:28] with madness. But for the sake of the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, when I strike every horse of the peoplesr[Deut. 28:28] with blindness. 5 Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God. ’
6 o[See ver. 3 above] On that day I will make the clans of Judahs[Jer. 5:14; Obad. 18] like a blazing pot in the midst of wood, like a flaming torch among sheaves. Andtch. 9:15 they shall devour to the right and to the left all the surrounding peoples, whileuch. 2:4; 14:10, 11 Jerusalem shall again be inhabited in its place, in Jerusalem.
7 And the Lord will give salvation to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem may not surpass that of Judah. 8 o[See ver. 3 above] On that dayvch. 9:15 the Lord will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so thatw[Isa. 60:22] the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God,x[1 Sam. 29:9; 2 Sam. 14:17, 20; 19:27] like the angel of the Lord, going before them. 9 o[See ver. 3 above] And on that dayy[ch. 14:3] I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
10 Andz[Jer. 31:9] I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace andz[Jer. 31:9] pleas for mercy, so that,aCited John 19:37; [Rev. 1:7] when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced,bJer. 50:4 they shall mourn for him,cJer. 6:26; Amos 8:10 as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. 11 o[See ver. 3 above] On that dayd[Acts 2:37] the mourning in Jerusalem will be as greate[2 Chr. 35:24] as the mourning for Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 The land shall mourn,f[ch. 7:3] each family1Or clan; also verses 13, 14 by itself: the family of the house of David by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family of the house ofg2 Sam. 5:14; Luke 3:31 Nathan by itself, and their wives by themselves; 13 the family of the house of Levi by itself, and their wives by themselves; the family ofhNum. 3:18 the Shimeites by itself, and their wives by themselves; 14 and all the families that are left, each by itself, and their wives by themselves.
