Peace with God Through Faith

5

ach. 3:28 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,b[ch. 15:13; Heb. 12:28] we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have alsocEph. 2:18; 3:12; [Heb. 10:19, 20; 1 Pet. 3:18] obtained access by faith into this graced1 Cor. 15:1 in which we stand, andever. 11; Heb. 3:6; [ch. 12:12] we2Or let us; also verse 3 rejoice3Or boast; also verses 3, 11 in hope of the glory of God. More than that, wefSee Matt. 5:12 rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that sufferinggSee Luke 21:19; James 1:3 produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, andhPs. 119:116; Phil. 1:20 hope does not put us to shame, because God's loveiActs 2:17, 18, 33; Titus 3:6; [Gal. 4:6] has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Forjver. 8, 10; [Hos. 13:9; Eph. 2:5] while we were still weak, at the right timekSee ch. 4:25 Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— butlSee John 3:16 God shows his love for us in thatmver. 6, 10 while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore,nSee ch. 3:25 we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him fromo1 Thess. 1:10; 2:16; See ch. 1:18 the wrath of God. 10 For ifpver. 6, 8; Col. 1:21; [ch. 8:32] while we were enemiesq2 Cor. 5:18-20; Eph. 2:16; Col. 1:20, 21 we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved byr2 Cor. 4:10, 11 his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now receivedsch. 11:15; 2 Cor. 5:18, 19 reconciliation.

Death in Adam, Life in Christ

12 Therefore, just astGen. 2:17; 3:6; 1 Cor. 15:21, 22; [ver. 15-17; ch. 6:9; Ps. 51:5] sin came into the world through one man, anduch. 6:23; James 1:15 death through sin, andv[ver. 14, 21; 1 Cor. 15:22] so death spread to all men becausewEph. 2:3 all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, butxSee ch. 3:20 sin is not counted where there is no law. 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was notyHos. 6:7 like the transgression of Adam,z1 Cor. 15:45 who was a type ofa[Matt. 11:3] the one who was to come.

15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded forbver. 19; Isa. 53:11 many. 16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man's sin. Forc1 Cor. 11:32 the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses broughtdver. 18 justification. 17 If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousnesseRev. 22:5 reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

18 Therefore, as one trespass1Or the trespass of one led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness2Or the act of righteousness of one leads to justification and life forfSee John 12:32 all men. 19 For as by the one man'sg[2 Cor. 10:6] disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man'shHeb. 5:8; [Phil. 2:8] obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 NowiGal. 3:19; See ch. 3:20 the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased,j1 Tim. 1:14 grace abounded all the more, 21 so that,k[ver. 12, 14] as sin reigned in death,lSee John 1:17 grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
