The Thousand Years

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven,nSee ch. 1:18 holding in his hand the key tooSee ch. 9:1 the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seizedpSee ch. 12:9 the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, andq[2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 6] bound him for a thousand years, and threw him intoo[See ver. 1 above] the pit, and shut it andrDan. 6:17; [Matt. 27:66] sealed it over him, so thatsver. 8, 10 he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

Then I sawtDan. 7:9; Matt. 19:28 thrones, anduch. 3:21; Dan. 7:22 seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I sawvch. 6:9 the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, andwch. 13:12, 14-16 who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands.x[John 14:19; 2 Tim. 2:11] They came to life andyver. 6; ch. 5:10; 22:5; Dan. 7:18; Matt. 20:21, 27; 2 Tim. 2:12; [Ps. 45:16] reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. zch. 14:13 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over suchaver. 14; ch. 2:11; 21:8 the second death has no power, but they will bebSee ch. 1:6 priests of God and of Christ, and theycver. 4 will reign with him for a thousand years.

The Defeat of Satan

And when the thousand years are ended,dver. 2 Satan will be released from his prison and will come outever. 3, 10 to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth,fEzek. 38:2; 39:1 Gog and Magog,gSee ch. 16:14 to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. Andh[Isa. 8:8; Ezek. 38:9, 16; Hab. 1:6] they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surroundediHeb. 13:11, 13 the camp of the saints andj[Ps. 132:13] the beloved city, butkSee ch. 13:13 fire came down from heaven and consumed them, 10 and the devillver. 3, 8 who had deceived them wasmSee ch. 19:20 thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur wherenSee ch. 16:13 the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Great White Throne Judgment

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presenceoSee Ps. 102:26 earth and sky fled away, andpch. 12:8; Dan. 2:35 no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, andqDan. 7:10 books were opened. Then another book was opened, which isrSee ch. 3:5 the book of life. AndsRom. 14:10; 2 Cor. 5:10; See ch. 11:18 the dead were judged by what was written in the books,tSee Matt. 16:27 according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it,uch. 6:8 Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them,t[See ver. 12 above] according to what they had done. 14 Thenu[See ver. 13 above] Death and Hadesv[ch. 21:4; Luke 20:36; 1 Cor. 15:26] were thrown into the lake of fire. This iswver. 6 the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life,xMatt. 13:42, 50 he was thrown into the lake of fire.
