The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle.1Or Jakeh, the man of Massa
The man declares, I am weary, O God;
I am weary, O God, and worn out.

Surely I am toomSee Ps. 49:10 stupid to be a man.
I have not the understanding of a man.

I have not learned wisdom,
nor have I knowledge ofnch. 9:10 the Holy One.

Who hasoJohn 3:13 ascended to heaven and come down?
Who hasp[Isa. 40:12]; See Job 38:4-11; Ps. 104:3-6 gathered the wind in his fists?
Who hasqJob 26:8 wrapped up the waters in a garment?
Who has established allrPs. 22:27 the ends of the earth?
s[Rev. 19:12] What is his name, and what is his son's name?
Surely you know!

lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to mewGen. 45:28 before I die:

Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;

lest I beyDeut. 8:12; 31:20; 32:15; Neh. 9:25; [ver. 22] full andzJosh. 24:27 deny you
and say,aEx. 5:2 “Who is the Lord? ”

or lest I be poor and steal

but are not washed of their filth.

13 There are those—howgSee Ps. 101:5 lofty are their eyes,
how high their eyelids lift!

14 There are those whose teeth arehSee Ps. 57:4 swords,
whoseiJob 29:17 fangs are knives,
tojSee Ps. 14:4 devour the poor from off the earth,
the needy from among mankind.

15 The leech has two daughters;
“Give ”
and “Give, ” they cry.1Or “Give, give,” they cry

and eaten by the vultures.

19 the way of an eagle in the sky,
the way of a serpent on a rock,
the way of a ship on the high seas,
and the way of a man with a virgin.

20 This is the way of an adulteress:
she eats and wipes her mouth
and says, “I have done no wrong. ”

28 the lizard you can take in your hands,
yet it is in kings' palaces.

30 the lion, which is mightiest among beasts

and a king whose army is with him.2Or against whom there is no rising up

32 If you have been foolish, exalting yourself,
or if you have been devising evil,

33 For pressing milk produces curds,
pressing the nose produces blood,
and pressing anger produces strife.
