In the meantime, tch. 11:29 when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, uMatt. 16:6, 11, 12; Mark 8:15 “Beware ofv1 Cor. 5:6-8; Gal. 5:9 the leaven of the Pharisees,wMatt. 23:28; Mark 12:15 which is hypocrisy. xch. 8:17; Mark 4:22; [1 Tim. 5:25]; For ver. 2-9, see Matt. 10:26-33 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Have No Fear

I tell you, my friends,aIsa. 8:12, 13; 51:12, 13; Jer. 1:8; 1 Pet. 3:14 do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear himbJames 4:12 who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Andc[Ps. 50:11] not one of them is forgotten before God. Why,dSee 1 Sam. 14:45 even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not;eMatt. 6:26; 12:12 you are of more value than many sparrows.

The Parable of the Rich Fool

13 sch. 11:27 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me. ” 14 But he said to him, tMic. 6:8; Rom. 2:1, 3; 9:20 “Man,u[Ex. 2:14; Acts 7:27] who made me a judge or arbitrator over you? ” 15 And he said to them, v1 Tim. 6:6-11; [Heb. 13:5] “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. ” 16 And he told them a parable, saying, w[Ps. 49:16-20] “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself,x[Eccles. 5:10] ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops? ’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down myyver. 24 barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid upz[Prov. 27:1; James 4:13-15] for many years; relax,aEccles. 2:24; 11:9; 1 Cor. 15:32; [ch. 15:23] eat, drink, be merry. ’ 20 But God said to him,bJer. 17:11; [Matt. 16:26] ‘Fool!z[See ver. 19 above] This nightcJob 27:8 your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared,dPs. 39:6; [Job 27:17-22; Eccles. 2:18, 21] whose will they be? ’ 21 So is the oneeMatt. 6:19, 20 who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. ”

Do Not Be Anxious

Interpreting the Time

54 He also said to the crowds, g[Matt. 16:2, 3] “When you seeh1 Kgs. 18:43, 44 a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming. ’ And so it happens. 55 Andg[See ver. 54 above] when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will beiSee Matt. 20:12 scorching heat, ’ and it happens. 56 You hypocrites!jMatt. 16:3 You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
