The Lord Answers Job

Then the Lordqch. 40:6; [ch. 13:22] answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:


“Who is this thatrch. 42:3 darkens counsel by wordssSee ch. 35:16 without knowledge?
t1 Kgs. 18:46 Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.

Where were you when IuPs. 104:5; [Prov. 30:4; Isa. 40:12-14]; See Prov. 8:24-29 laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.

Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?

On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,

when the morning starsv[Ps. 19:1-4] sang together
and allwSee ch. 1:6 the sons of Godx[Luke 2:13, 14] shouted for joy?

Or whoyGen. 1:9; Ps. 33:7; 104:8, 9; Jer. 5:22 shut in the sea with doors
when it burst out from the womb,

when I made clouds its garment
andzch. 22:13 thick darkness its swaddling band,

and set bars and doors,

11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther,
and here shall yourb[Ps. 65:7; 89:9; 93:4] proud waves be stayed ’

and caused the dawn to know its place,

14 It is changed like clay under the seal,
and its features stand out like a garment.

18 Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth?
Declare, if you know all this.

19 Where is the way to the dwelling of light,
and where is the place of darkness,

20 that you may take it to its territory
and that you may discernkch. 24:13 the paths to its home?

and the number of your days is great!

32 Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season,

Can you establish their rule on the earth?

34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,

35 Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go
and say to you, ‘Here we are ’
