gCited John 12:38; Rom. 10:16 Who has believed what they heard from us?1Or Who has believed what we have heard?
And to whom hashSee ch. 51:9 the arm of the Lord been revealed?

For he grew up before him like a young plant,
ich. 11:1 and like a root out of dry ground;
j[ch. 52:14] he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.

kch. 49:7; [Ps. 22:6; Mark 9:12] He was despised and rejected1Or forsaken by men;
a man of sorrows,2Or pains; also verse 4 and acquainted with3Or and knowing grief;4Or sickness; also verse 4
and as one from whom men hide their faces5Or as one who hides his face from us
he was despised, andl[John 1:10, 11] we esteemed him not.

m[Matt. 8:17] Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
nPs. 69:26 smitten by God, and afflicted.

o[Rom. 4:25] But he was wounded for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
pCited 1 Pet. 2:24 and with his stripes we are healed.

qCited 1 Pet. 2:25; [Jer. 50:6, 17] All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
r2 Cor. 5:21; [ver. 10; Col. 2:14] and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
sMatt. 26:63; Mark 14:61; John 19:9; 1 Pet. 2:23 yet he opened not his mouth;
tCited Acts 8:32 like au[Jer. 11:19] lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.

By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation,vch. 57:1 who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?

And they made his grave with the wicked
wMatt. 27:57, 60 and with a rich man in his death,
althoughxCited 1 Pet. 2:22; [Heb. 4:15; 1 John 3:5] he had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.

10 Yety[ver. 4] it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;1Or he has made him sick
z[ver. 6] when his soul makes2Or when you make his soul an offering for sin,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
a[ch. 44:28] the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shallb[1 John 2:1] the righteous one, my servant,
cActs 13:39; Rom. 5:18, 19 make many to be accounted righteous,
d[ver. 5] and he shall bear their iniquities.

12 ech. 52:13; [Phil. 2:9] Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,1Or with the great
f[Col. 2:15] and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,2Or with the numerous
because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
gver. 6, 8, 10 yet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
