Ephraim feeds on the wind
and pursuesz[ch. 13:15; Jer. 18:17] the east wind all day long;
they multiplyy[See ch. 11:12 above] falsehood and violence;
aSee ch. 5:13 they make a covenant with Assyria,
andb[ch. 7:11; 2 Kgs. 17:4] oil is carried to Egypt.

The Lord's Indictment of Israel and Judah


cSee ch. 4:1 The Lord has an indictment against Judah
and will punish Jacob according to his ways;
he will repay him according to his deeds.

and in his manhood he strove with God.

He strove with the angel and prevailed;
he wept and sought his favor.

Ephraim has said, “Ah, butkZech. 11:5; Rev. 3:17 I am rich;
I have found wealth for myself;
in all my laborsl[Deut. 29:19] they cannot find in me iniquity or sin. ”

from the land of Egypt;

as in the days of the appointed feast.
