Christ's Sacrifice Once for All

10

For since the law has butvch. 8:5; Col. 2:17 a shadowwch. 9:11 of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities,x[ch. 9:9] it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sin? ButySee ch. 9:7 in these sacrificeszLev. 16:21 there is a reminder of sin every year. Foraver. 11 it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Consequently,b[ch. 1:6] when Christ came into the world, he said,
cCited from Ps. 40:6-8 “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;

in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book. ’

When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure inc[See ver. 5 above] sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings ” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, dver. 7 “Behold, I have come to do your will. ” He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. 10 And by that willech. 2:11; 13:12 we have been sanctified through the offering offMatt. 26:26; Mark 14:22; Luke 22:19; 1 Cor. 11:24; [ver. 5] the body of Jesus Christgch. 7:27; 9:12 once for all.

11 And every priest standsh[Num. 28:3] daily at his service,iSee ch. 5:1 offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, jver. 1, 4; [ch. 9:9] which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, hekch. 1:3; See Mark 16:19 sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that timelch. 1:13; [1 Cor. 15:25-28] until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offeringmver. 1 he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16 nch. 8:10; Rom. 11:27; Cited from Jer. 31:33 “This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds, ”

17 then he adds,
och. 8:12; Cited from Jer. 31:34 “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more. ”

18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
