Make Your Calling and Election Sure

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of himf[1 Thess. 2:12; 2 Thess. 2:14; 2 Tim. 1:9; 1 Pet. 5:10] who called us to1Or by his own glory and excellence,2Or virtue by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may becomeg[Eph. 4:24; Heb. 12:10; 1 John 3:2] partakers of the divine nature,hch. 2:18, 20 having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faithiPhil. 4:8 with virtue,1Or excellence; twice in this verse and virtuej1 Pet. 3:7 with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-controlkSee Heb. 10:36; James 1:3 with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godlinesslSee Heb. 13:1 with brotherly affection, and brotherly affectionm1 Cor. 13; 1 John 4:16 with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective ornSee John 15:2; Titus 3:14 unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that heoJob 5:14; 12:25; Isa. 59:10; Zeph. 1:17; [1 John 2:9-11] is blind, having forgotten that he waspEph. 5:26; Titus 2:14; Heb. 9:14; 1 John 1:7; Rev. 7:14 cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling andq1 Thess. 1:4 election sure, for if you practice these qualitiesr[ch. 3:17; 1 John 2:10] you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for yousCol. 1:13; [Acts 14:22] an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 Therefore I intendtJude 5; [Rom. 15:14, 15; Phil. 3:1; 1 John 2:21] always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established inu2 John 2 the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in thisv2 Cor. 5:1, 4 body,wch. 3:1 to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 x[Deut. 4:21, 22; 31:14; 2 Tim. 4:6] since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon,yJohn 21:18, 19 as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Christ's Glory and the Prophetic Word
