1 Then Solomonassembledthe eldersof Israel, and all the headsof the tribes, the chiefof the fathersof the childrenof Israel, unto kingSolomonin Jerusalem, that they might bring upthe arkof the covenantof the Lordout of the cityof David, which isZion.nchief: Heb. princes2 And all the menof Israelassembledthemselves unto kingSolomonat the feastin the monthEthanim, which isthe seventhmonth.3 And all the eldersof Israelcame, and the prieststook upthe ark.4 And they brought upthe arkof the Lord, and the tabernacleof the congregation, and all the holyvessels that werein the tabernacle, even those did the priestsand the Levitesbring up.5 And kingSolomon, and all the congregationof Israel, that were assembled unto him, werewith him beforethe ark, sacrificingsheepand oxen, that could not be toldnor numberedfor multitude.6 And the priestsbrought inthe arkof the covenantof the Lordunto his place, into the oracleof the house, to the mostholyplace, evenunder the wingsof the cherubims.7 For the cherubimsspread forththeirtwo wingsover the placeof the ark, and the cherubimscoveredthe arkand the stavesthereof above.8 And they drew outthe staves, that the endsof the staveswere seen outin the holyplacebeforethe oracle, and they were not seenwithout: and there they are unto this day.nends: Heb. headsnholy…: or, ark9 There wasnothing in the arksavethe twotablesof stone, which Mosesputthere at Horeb, when the Lordmadea covenantwith the childrenof Israel, when they came outof the landof Egypt.nwhen the: or, where the10 And it came to pass, when the priestswere come outof the holyplace, that the cloudfilledthe houseof the Lord,11 So that the priestscouldnot standto ministerbecauseof the cloud: for the gloryof the Lordhad filledthe houseof the Lord.
12 Then spakeSolomon, The Lordsaidthat he would dwellin the thick darkness.13 I have surelybuiltthee an houseto dwell in, a settled placefor thee to abide infor ever.14 And the kingturnedhis faceabout, and blessedall the congregationof Israel: (and all the congregationof Israelstood;)15 And he said, Blessedbethe LordGodof Israel, which spakewith his mouthunto Davidmy father, and hath with his handfulfilledit, saying,16 Since the daythat I brought forthmy peopleIsraelout of Egypt, I choseno cityout of all the tribesof Israelto buildan house, that my namemight be therein; but I choseDavidto be over my peopleIsrael.17 And it was in the heartof Davidmy fatherto buildan housefor the nameof the LordGodof Israel.18 And the Lordsaidunto Davidmy father, Whereasit was in thine heartto buildan houseunto my name, thou didst wellthat it was in thine heart.19 Neverthelessthou shalt not buildthe house; but thy sonthat shall come forth outof thy loins, he shall buildthe houseunto my name.20 And the Lordhath performedhis wordthat he spake, and I am risen upin the room of Davidmy father, and siton the throneof Israel, as the Lordpromised, and have builtan housefor the nameof the LordGodof Israel.21 And I have setthere a placefor the ark, wherein isthe covenantof the Lord, which he madewith our fathers, when he brought them outof the landof Egypt.
22 And Solomonstoodbeforethe altarof the Lordin the presence ofall the congregationof Israel, and spread forthhis handstoward heaven:23 And he said, LordGodof Israel, there isno Godlike thee, in heavenabove, or on earthbeneath, who keepestcovenantand mercywith thy servantsthat walkbeforethee with all their heart:24 Who hast keptwith thy servantDavidmy fatherthat thou promisedsthim: thou spakestalso with thy mouth, and hast fulfilleditwith thine hand, as it isthis day.25 Therefore now, LordGodof Israel, keepwith thy servantDavidmy fatherthat thou promisedsthim, saying, There shall not failthee a manin my sightto siton the throneof Israel; sothat thy childrentake heedto their way, that they walkbeforeme as thou hast walkedbefore me.nfail…: Heb. be cut off unto thee a man from my sightnso that: Heb. only if26 And now, O Godof Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakestunto thy servantDavidmy father.27 But will Godindeeddwellon the earth? behold, the heavenand heavenof heavenscannot containthee; how much lessthis housethat I have builded?28 Yet have thou respectunto the prayerof thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lordmy God, to hearkenunto the cryand to the prayer, which thy servantprayethbeforethee to day:29 That thine eyesmay be opentoward this housenightand day, eventoward the placeof which thou hast said, My nameshall be there: that thou mayest hearkenunto the prayerwhich thy servantshall maketoward this place.ntoward this place: or, in this place30 And hearkenthou to the supplicationof thy servant, and of thy peopleIsrael, when they shall praytoward this place: and hearthou in heaventhy dwellingplace: and when thou hearest, forgive.ntoward this place: or, in this place
31 If any mantrespassagainst his neighbour, and an oathbe laidupon him to cause him to swear, and the oathcomebeforethine altarin this house:nand an oath…: Heb. and he require an oath of him32 Then hearthou in heaven, and do, and judgethy servants, condemningthe wicked, to bringhis wayupon his head; and justifyingthe righteous, to givehim according to his righteousness.
33 When thy peopleIsraelbe smitten downbeforethe enemy, because they have sinnedagainst thee, and shall turn againto thee, and confessthy name, and pray, and make supplicationunto thee in this house:nin: or, toward34 Then hearthou in heaven, and forgivethe sinof thy peopleIsrael, and bring them againunto the landwhich thou gavestunto their fathers.
35 When heavenis shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinnedagainst thee; if they praytoward this place, and confessthy name, and turnfrom their sin, when thou afflictest them:36 Then hearthou in heaven, and forgivethe sinof thy servants, and of thy peopleIsrael, that thou teachthem the goodwaywherein they should walk, and giverainupon thy land, which thou hast givento thy peoplefor an inheritance.
37 If there be in the landfamine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, orif there be caterpiller; if their enemybesiegethem in the landof their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sicknessthere be;ncities: or, jurisdiction38 What prayerand supplication soever be madeby any man, orby all thy peopleIsrael, which shall knowevery manthe plagueof his own heart, and spread forthhis handstoward this house:39 Then hearthou in heaventhy dwellingplace, and forgive, and do, and giveto every manaccording to his ways, whose heartthou knowest; (for thou, eventhou only, knowestthe heartsof all the childrenof men;)40 That they may fearthee all the daysthat they liveinthe landwhich thou gavestunto our fathers.41 Moreover concerning a stranger, that isnot of thy peopleIsrael, but cometh outof a farcountryforthy name's sake;42 (For they shall hearof thy greatname, and of thy stronghand, and of thy stretched outarm;) when he shall comeand praytoward this house;43 Hearthou in heaventhy dwellingplace, and doaccording to all that the strangercallethto thee for: that all peopleof the earthmay knowthy name, to fear thee, as dothy peopleIsrael; and that they may knowthat this house, which I have builded, is calledby thy name.nthis…: Heb. thy name is called upon this house
44 If thy peoplego outto battleagainst their enemy, whithersoeverthou shalt sendthem, and shall prayunto the Lordtowardthe citywhich thou hast chosen, and towardthe housethat I have builtfor thy name:ntoward the city: Heb. the way of the city45 Then hearthou in heaventheir prayerand their supplication, and maintaintheir cause.ncause: or, right46 If they sin against thee, (for there isno manthat sinnethnot,) and thou be angrywith them, and deliverthem to the enemy, so that they carry them awaycaptivesuntothe landof the enemy, faror near;47 Yetif they shall bethinkthemselves in the landwhither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplicationunto thee in the landof them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness;nbethink…: Heb. bring back to their heart48 And soreturnunto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the landof their enemies, which led them away captive, and prayunto thee towardtheir land, which thou gavestunto their fathers, the citywhich thou hast chosen, and the housewhich I have builtfor thy name:49 Then hearthou their prayerand their supplicationin heaventhy dwellingplace, and maintaintheir cause,ncause: or, right50 And forgivethy peoplethat have sinnedagainst thee, and all their transgressionswherein they have transgressedagainst thee, and givethem compassionbeforethem who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them:51 For they bethy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forthout of Egypt, from the midstof the furnaceof iron:52 That thine eyesmay be openunto the supplicationof thy servant, and unto the supplicationof thy peopleIsrael, to hearkenunto them in all that they call for unto thee.53 For thou didst separatethem from among all the peopleof the earth, to bethine inheritance, as thou spakestby the handof Mosesthy servant, when thou broughtestour fathersout of Egypt, O LordGod.54 And it was so, that when Solomonhad made an endof prayingall this prayerand supplicationunto the Lord, he arosefrom beforethe altarof the Lord, from kneelingon his kneeswith his handsspread upto heaven.55 And he stood, and blessedall the congregationof Israelwith a loudvoice, saying,56 Blessedbethe Lord, that hath givenrestunto his peopleIsrael, according to all that he promised: there hath not failedonewordof all his goodpromise, which he promisedby the handof Moseshis servant.nfailed: Heb. fallen57 The Lordour Godbe with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leaveus, nor forsake us:58 That he may inclineour heartsunto him, to walkin all his ways, and to keephis commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commandedour fathers.59 And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplicationbeforethe Lord, be nighunto the Lordour Goddayand night, that he maintainthe causeof his servant, and the causeof his peopleIsraelat all times, as the matter shall require:nat all…: Heb. the thing of a day in his day60 That all the peopleof the earthmay knowthat the LordisGod, and that there is none else.61 Let your hearttherefore be perfectwith the Lordour God, to walkin his statutes, and to keephis commandments, as at this day.
62 And the king, and all Israelwith him, offeredsacrificebeforethe Lord.63 And Solomonoffereda sacrificeof peace offerings, which he offeredunto the Lord, twoand twentythousandoxen, and an hundredand twentythousandsheep. So the kingand all the childrenof Israeldedicatedthe houseof the Lord.64 The same daydid the kinghallowthe middleof the court that wasbeforethe houseof the Lord: for there he offeredburnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fatof the peace offerings: because the brasenaltar that wasbeforethe Lordwastoo littleto receivethe burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fatof the peace offerings.65 And at that timeSolomonhelda feast, and all Israelwith him, a greatcongregation, from the enteringin of Hamathunto the riverof Egypt, beforethe Lordour God, sevendaysand sevendays, evenfourteendays.66 On the eighthdayhe sentthe peopleaway: and they blessedthe king, and wentunto their tentsjoyfuland gladof heartfor all the goodnessthat the Lordhad donefor Davidhis servant, and for Israelhis people.nblessed: or, thanked
