1 In the seventhmonth, in the oneand twentiethdayof the month, came the wordof the Lordbythe prophetHaggai, saying,nby: Heb. by the hand of2 Speaknow to Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtiel, governorof Judah, and to Joshuathe sonof Josedech, the highpriest, and to the residueof the people, saying,3 Who isleftamong you that sawthis housein her firstglory? and how do ye see it now? is itnot in your eyesin comparison of it as nothing?4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saiththe Lord; and be strong, O Joshua, sonof Josedech, the highpriest; and be strong, all ye peopleof the land, saiththe Lord, and work: for I amwith you, saiththe Lordof hosts:5 According tothe wordthat I covenantedwith you when ye cameout of Egypt, so my spiritremainethamongyou: fear ye not.6 For thus saiththe Lordof hosts; Yet once, it isa little while, and I will shakethe heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dryland;7 And I will shakeall nations, and the desireof all nationsshall come: and I will fillthis housewith glory, saiththe Lordof hosts.8 The silverismine, and the goldismine, saiththe Lordof hosts.9 The gloryof this latterhouseshall be greater thanof the former, saiththe Lordof hosts: and in this placewill I givepeace, saiththe Lordof hosts.
10 In the fourand twentiethdayof the ninthmonth, in the secondyearof Darius, came the wordof the LordbyHaggaithe prophet, saying,11 Thus saiththe Lordof hosts; Asknow the priestsconcerningthe law, saying,12 If onebearholyfleshin the skirtof his garment, and with his skirtdo touchbread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priestsansweredand said, No.13 Then saidHaggai, If one that isuncleanby a dead bodytouchany of these, shall it be unclean? And the priestsansweredand said, It shall be unclean.14 Then answeredHaggai, and said, So isthis people, and so isthis nationbeforeme, saiththe Lord; and so isevery workof their hands; and that which they offer there isunclean.15 And now, I pray you, considerfrom this dayand upward, from beforea stonewas laidupon a stonein the templeof the Lord:16 Since those days were, when onecameto an heapof twentymeasures, there were butten: when onecameto the pressfatfor to draw outfiftyvesselsout of the press, there were buttwenty.17 I smoteyou with blastingand with mildewand with hailin all the laboursof your hands; yet ye turnednot to me, saiththe Lord.18 Considernow from this dayand upward, from the fourand twentiethdayof the ninthmonth, evenfrom the daythat the foundationof the Lord'stemplewas laid, considerit.19 Is the seedyet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olivetree, hath not brought forth: from this daywill I blessyou.
20 And againthe wordof the Lordcame unto Haggaiin the fourand twentiethdayof the month, saying,21 Speakto Zerubbabel, governorof Judah, saying, I will shakethe heavensand the earth;22 And I will overthrowthe throneof kingdoms, and I will destroythe strengthof the kingdomsof the heathen; and I will overthrowthe chariots, and those that ridein them; and the horsesand their ridersshall come down, every oneby the swordof his brother.23 In that day, saiththe Lordof hosts, will I takethee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the sonof Shealtiel, saiththe Lord, and will makethee as a signet: for I have chosenthee, saiththe Lordof hosts.
