And they foundjMatt. 27:60; Mark 15:46; [John 11] the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold,kJohn 20:12 twol[Acts 1:10; 10:30] men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they weremver. 37 frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, nch. 9:22, 44; Matt. 17:22, 23; Mark 9:30, 31; [ver. 44] while he was still in Galilee, n[See ver. 6 above] that the Son of ManoSee ch. 13:33 must be delivered into the hands of sinful men andpSee Matt. 20:19 be crucified and onqSee ch. 9:22 the third day rise. ” AndrJohn 2:22; 12:1 they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb theys[John 20:18] told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it wastMatt. 27:56; Mark 15:40, 41 Mary Magdalene anduch. 8:3 Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11 but these words seemed to them an idle tale, andvMark 16:11; See Mark 16:16 they did not believe them. 12 ButwJohn 20:3-6 Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he sawxJohn 19:40 the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

On the Road to Emmaus

13 That very dayyMark 16:12 two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 zJohn 20:14; 21:4; [ver. 31; ch. 9:45; 18:34] But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17 And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk? ” And they stood still, looking sad. 18 Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days? ” 19 And he said to them, “What things? ” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who wasaSee Matt. 21:11 a prophetbActs 2:22; [Acts 7:22] mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20 andcActs 2:23; 5:30; 13:27, 28; 1 Thess. 2:15 how our chief priests anddch. 23:13, 35; John 3:1; 7:26, 48; 12:42; Acts 3:17; 4:5, 8; 13:27; [1 Cor. 2:8] rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21 But we had hoped that he waseSee ch. 1:68; 1 Pet. 1:18 the one to redeem Israel. Jesus Appears to His Disciples

36 As they were talking about these things,cMark 16:14; John 20:19 Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you! ” 37 But they weredch. 21:9 startled andever. 5 frightened andf[Matt. 14:26; Mark 6:49] thought they saw a spirit. 38 And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.g1 John 1:1; [John 20:27] Touch me, and see.
